Summer Youth Ministry

I’ve been reading a lot about what people do over the summer for youth ministry. This seems to be a very sensitive subject to many. Do you cancel the program? Do you keep it running year-round? What about your volunteer staff? So many questions, and no perfect way to answer them. So I thought I would share what I do over the summer in my Youth Ministry.

We keep our program running, but with a different look. We don’t meet at the church. Instead we meet at people’s homes. Our Sr. High and Jr. High program rotate every week on Wednesday. One week it’s Jr. High the next week it’s Sr. High. This time it’s more about building relationships and making a safe transition for those moving up. No real ‘lesson’ is taught. Occationally there will be a short devotional, but the main purpose is fellowship and building new relationships.
