Don’t teach…love.

In one of my past posts I talked about recruiting new volunteer staff for our ministry. In my meetings with them to talk about what I’m looking for, what I expect, and what they can expect, I found myself saying the same thing that I think helps them understand a bigger picture.  I tell them that I don’t want a teacher. I want someone to love the teenagers. From the love comes the teaching, the modeling, and the discipleship. But it has to start with love. That’s seems to be the most effective way they learn and grow.  I’ve found that students don’t remember much of what I taught in youth group. They do remember my character, how I act, and those times I’ve meet with them individually.

I think adults find that easier to do…to love…than to teach.
