I read “The Shack” by Wm. Paul Young and I was struck by the different ways this author portrays God. I know there is a lot of discussion about this book in the Christian world, but one has to remember that it is fiction. This writer created a neat setting for one to discover God in a unique way. As I was reading I was struck by a strange thought.

Can we disappoint God?

Here’s lies the thought process…If God knows the future, that is He know what we will do, say, and live, can we really disappoint Him if he already knows? I asked this question in my small group that my wife and I are apart of and got some puzzling looks.

I know many time my kids in my youth ministry disappoint me with choices they make. Even my own kids disappoint me by some the choices they make. Is it the same with God?

How do you deal with that? How do you portray it to your students in your youth ministry?
