Maze Mess

Every Halloween our church opens it’s door’s to our community for a free Fall Festival. It’s geared more for little kids…grade school. Three years ago I was hit with the idea that there was nothing for the older kids. So I designed a maze in our youth room. It’s made of black plastic sheeting, strobe lights, black lights, loud music and fog machines. The parents almost enjoy it more than the kids. This year…something new happened. At the very end of the night, the fog from our maze got out into the rest of the church setting off our smoke detector. That started the chain of events that brought the fire department. (oops!) For some reason, I felt a little embarassed, but then thought about it…what’s an event with a youth pastor and no police or fire department? I soon will hear if we will still be able to do the maze again. It was fun though and get this…nobody left the building. I guess they don’t teach fire safety anymore.
